Who is Red Door?

Red Door actually started as my daughter's idea. Imagine a 12 year old girl pitching her parents for a $300 embroidery machine so she could make monogrammed pockets tees to sell to friends and neighbors over the summer. We laughed at first, but having some experience with sewing, I thought it would give us the opportunity to spend some time together, have some fun and give her some business experience as well. With a family investment of under $1000, we started...Red Door Monogramming and Embroidery in the summer of 2014.

Things moved quickly from there, as within the first couple of months we gained enough support and confidence to add a commercial embroidery machine. After persuading my husband to convert a section of our home into our workshop, we were able to spread our wings a bit...and we ventured into Facebook and Instagram pages to advertise our growing inventory. As we closed in on one year, we made a push to pull together all of the necessary documents to become a legal business....legit!!

And now here we are.... goals surpassed, full blown business, website, logo, and all we can feel is thankful. So welcome! Come on "in" and stay awhile.

Why Red Door?

Because it's our front door!  Back in 2013, we moved to Vickery Village in Cumming, GA, into a great new home that we spent a year planning and having built just for our family. The style conveys a welcoming and friendly feel.  It's a Dutch-style door, like nearly every gift shop in Carmel, California where we were married. Red...because I LOVE red!

The Downums

The Red Door house has become a well-known and welcoming place for our neighbors, friends and customers here in Vickery. Our business, lifestyle, and logo is a reflection of who we are.

Meet Tia

Untitled-2.jpg

Tia Downum, married to Richie for 20 great years and mother of two teenagers, Austin and Morgan. Raised in California, but called Georgia home for 15 years. I have worn all the 'mom hats' over the years...chief caregiver, chef, chauffeur, problem solver, lost-item finder, nurse, accountant, event planner, psychologist, class-mom, laundry specialist and much more...I cherish the opportunity I've been given to spend all of these years doing just that...being a wife and a mom.  My family is the greatest gift in life!

A couple other passions are cooking (I love to cook! It's all about the food and enjoying it with family and friends) and antique markets (there's something about visiting the antique market that makes my heart beat a little faster).  Always looking for a treasure! I have a creative spirit and an eye for design. I love transforming rustic antique finds into conversation pieces that decorate our home. Which has brought me to Red Door, designing and creating unique gifts that everyone loves to receive.... and yes.... you can totally shop for yourself too!
